Hunting down IS fighters in Europe | DW Documentary

In Syria's "Al-Roj Camp", hundreds of women and children live in squalid conditions while the world ponders what to do with them. They are the wives and children of IS fighters captured when the caliphate fell. Among them are hundreds of people from the West, eager to get home. But that doesn’t seem likely. And what about the fighters who have not yet been captured?

Many IS fighters have returned to their home countries, traveling with forged documents or posing as refugees. Others fled the self-proclaimed caliphate to begin new lives in the West. A handful of men have made it their mission to track these people down.

33-year-old Ahmad Ramadan heads a secret network that aims to find these former militants and hold them accountable for their crimes. While he’s on the trail of a fighter believed to be in Germany, video from an informant shows the wanted man training to be a truck driver. Thanks to the network, high-ranking IS members including spokesman Abdul Kader el Raggaoui have already been arrested in Europe. But its members pay a price for their work, as they themselves become targets of IS retaliation.
